Miniature Landscapes - Further Exploration with Judith Conway - USA

22-25 June 2015 (Mon-Wed)

This three-day class is the second in a series of workshops focusing on landscape in miniature and is designed for the student who has an interest in new ways to present the landscapes of our world. This class is suitable for those who are exploring this technique for the first time and for those who have already taken the Miniature Landscapes in Pâte de verre workshop held here previously.

It will introduce pre-fired components, composing a piece using thin sheet glass and powders, and additional ways of shading and depicting natural elements as well as man-made structures in the landscape. A unique firing process will help to retain the size and shape while, at the same time, creating a soft pâte de verre look.

Judith will guide students to work in larger formats, use new colour palettes, and to consider multi-part pieces as they further explore these techniques. This class will also focus attention on the importance of good design paired with good craftsmanship in the execution of the final projects.  It will also place emphasis on the importance of considering the method of display for each piece right from the beginning.
